Has anyone purchased termite control chemicals from here per their recommendations and are they reputable.
They seem highly knowledgeable and helpful but just want to make sure I am not over paying for something I could get online. I do however want to support local businesses where I can.

I have recently discovered termites and their trails in my woodworking shed. Treated inside with local home improvement brand that seemed to rid the area of them but want to make sure they are eliminated altogether.

No signs of them anywhere near the home and want to keep it that way. The quote my current pest control company quoted is entirely out the question and with no warranty.
I have the equipment to do myself and just want to make sure I am using the right preventative and control going forward.

Thanks

A termiticide with the active ingredient fipronil. Termidor SC is one product, there are others with the same active ingredient at the same concentration under a different brand name, maybe at a cheaper price, like Taurus SC, but use a fipronil based product. It’s a very stable product, chemically, with a very long half life.

Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it.

So, I wouldn't need one product to eliminate and another to control?
Use this to spray inside , underneath and around the parameter of shop as well as perimeter of homme and I'd be good to go?

If so, that'd be awesome. I say this because person at Pestop named two products that they'd recommend. One to eliminate and another to control.

I would think the fipronil would be sufficient. They may have based their suggestion of a second product based on information you provided them as to what you were seeing as to active termite activity inside the shed. In other words, spraying termites you actually are seeing now with a quick kill insecticide but doesn’t have a long residual kill time - breaks down quickly.

You remember the products they recommended?

I'm pretty certain that they mentioned Termidor and think the other started with a B?

I will find out tomorrow and thank you for your time.

Take care

You probably killed the surface termites but there is probably a colony somewhere near under ground.

Had a guy from one of those national termite exterminating companies and gave an estimate.

They use basically a three-step approach.

1.Spray,
2.Trench around the house with a termicide
3.Use bait traps.

I got a couple of products from Domyown.com

Got a gallon of concentrate Bora-Care for 90 dollars. Stuff is supposed to be some of the best available for spraying for termites. It's highly concentrated and you will have mix it with water and spray. Its supposed to provide protection for 7 years.

Got some termite bait stations from there too. They recommend spacing them out about 10 feet each, about 2-4 feet from the edge of your home, structure...

Bought a large bottle of concentrate Taurus SC from my local garden center. The big box stores did not have it.
May want to do some price comparison though. Domyown is a little cheaper but I like supporting local business.
Basically, you just dig a small trench around the perimeter of your house, structure...with a pick axe and pour in the mixture of Taurus SC and water in the trench. Instructions say use .8oz to every gallon of water. Just mix it in a 5 gallon bucket and pour into the trench.

There are tons of vids on youtube...on how to do this.

Probably Bifenthrin. That would be used to provide quick kill to active termites that you can see - breaks down quickly and not along residual life - but a good overall insecticide that has wide spread use around the home perimeter, lawn, etc. for a wide variety of insects. Sounds like they were giving you good advice on products to use.

It appears that prevention would be Termidor/Taurus and Bifenthrin or Bora care to exterminate the active termites present.

i have heard that the bait traps could actually lure termites to your home from another area and not recommended by some.

Any truth to this?

Honestly my knowledge of termite bait stations is meager so I can’t bring much to the table on the topic but that comment does sound pretty far-fetched to me. Bait stations don’t have an attractant per se that draw termites to them, they just intercept foraging termite colonies.

I thought the idea behind bait stations, was you bait them to the station and then replace the food with poison to kill them. Im no expert though either.

Yes - that was my understanding as well.
