Police Misconduct and Excessive Force

I recently read a news article about a disabled war veteran who was acquitted of some very serious child abuse allegations. He claimed there was a conspiracy by local police and others to deprive him of his civil rights. The story is very unique. The allegations are tied to a divorce filing by his estranged wife and involve custody issues of their kids.
The veteran was in jail for well over two years awaiting trial. He had no bond. So, even after being found not guilty by a jury of his peers, he can't seem to shake the lingering stigma of being labeled a child abuser by some who refuse to accept his obvious innocence.
It's unfortunate that our justice system and the politics behind much of it allows a war hero like that veteran to be humiliated and trampled on by a few rogue cops who clearly didn't uphold their oath to protect and serve, equally.
If you're interested, the case is Nettles v Skabardis, Duffett, in federal court. Just Google it. A GoFundMe was setup to help the poor veteran. His name's Jonathan Nettles, according to the article. As a lawyer, it saddens me to read about stuff like that. Our politicians need to in act laws that remedy and help prevent a travesty of justice like that!

You can't expect people who don't respect the law to accept a just verdict from a jury. Some folks don't have much if any good in them. We live in a very corrupted world in which greed and lust motivate most, sadly.

Civilian and military legal systems are both disasters. Both require a lot of reform. There are criminal and civil statutes that allow for accountability when law enforcement goes bad, but they are rarely used.
I have seen and been victimized by this sort of criminality. Judges and similarly positioned people could put a stop to this stuff, but they won't because they are part of the same club.

Coming in blind, the chances she either made them up out of whole cloth or wildly blew something out of proportion in order to get the hearing in her favor seems pretty high.
If it is something that put him behind bars awaiting trial for two years, she certainly seems to have gotten what she wants through a default.

Politicians are NEVER a correct course of action. There’s already laws enough, he’s suing under such statutes.
If you are a real lawyer you would know this. The real solution is absolute enforcement of the laws already established. Politicians will just take time and put stuff in the new laws to enrich and empower themselves even more. And that’s without regard for the months/years they will waste attempting to get a new law passed.

So what was the conspiracy of the local police? That’s his claim? Then adjudicate it now. He’s a free man and can file a civil lawsuit and get just compensation plus punitive damages if he can prove his allegations of police misconduct.

Was it really necessary to create an alt to continue pushing your GoFundMe and book?
You didn't even play it off good. 2 new accounts obsessing over one guy.

I'm not surprised that some individuals are trolling this post and making crazy and disparaging comments. It further proves my point and reason for making this post. You won't stop justice from happening!

That's so ridiculous on many levels! Pray he gets justice.

UPDATE: My money and identity were stolen while in jail. But through very hard work and patience, I've managed to get my life back on track. Thank you to everyone who has prayed and spoken out on my behalf. It's encouraging to know there are still good people left in the world! God bless you.

Update: Duffett is nolonger chief, but got hired in Tittabawassee as chief. Skabardis replaced Duffett as BTPD chief. The exwife moved to Texas with one of the guys she cheated with and had the youngest child with. The veteran's still fighting for justice ?...

The cops that were sued by the war veteran filed a motion for summary judgment and a decision is pending. Stay tuned.

There need to be HARSH penalties for false reporting. At the very least, the person who accused him should serve the same amount of time he could have served.
