It seems that Louisiana isn’t as fertile for BB recruiting as it is for Football. Not saying we don’t have some greats but it’s seems the per capita is much lower for BB than Football and much less consistent.

Is that just my perception or what’s the reason?

Hannagrif talked about this on the radio the other day. LA hasn’t produced a single Top 100 recruit in the 3 classes prior to this year, and has just one this year

That doesn’t give the staff a pass for poor results, but it would be super helpful if a Javonte Smart, Skylar Mays or similar were out there

Not as productive as football

Currently #15 in NBA players' birthplace.

Also, the following hall-of-fame players are from Louisiana.

Robert Parish
Karl Malone
Joe Dumars
Clyde Drexler
Elvin Hayes
Bill Russell
Willis Reed
Bob Pettit

Prior successful lsu hoops runs had solid state contributors. Louisiana hasn’t produced elite basketball players in more than a decade.

It's not as big of a factor in basketball recruiting. The elite recruits (at least top 100) travel regularly for EYBL and such things. A lot also change HS several times before college. It helps to have local basketball studs, but football players grow up near home as a whole more than basketball players.

La hasn’t produced top talent in basketball in a bunch of years or really ever outside of a handful of guys.
Kind of weird when you think about it because of the athletes in the state….I think some may have to do with football being king and those kids in That tweener range end up playing football which is smart.

Generally speaking, Louisiana high school basketball sucks when you compare it to the national scene. Every once in a while there's a phenom that pops up in Louisiana, but most kids' basketball IQ and skill ability don't compare to top kids from other states, especially up north. When you travel on the major national circuits, this is very apparent.

Basically true, but I think the state produces 2 or 3 good players per year on average.
