Motor making water this morning. May have cracked something during the freeze. Looking for somewhere that can fix /rebuild it.

Cajun Outboards in Plaquemine is the main Yamaha dealer around Baton Rouge.

You have a crack in the block and need a new block or new motor, new motor is the answer.

Can be rebuilt but it is mostly not economical due to the type of metals.

Call Cajun Outboards and talk to Kirk. If you remember my name tell him I said to call him.

Rebuilt as in fixed is all. If a new powerhead is what I need, I will replace it. Just looking for a good contact.
Thanks for all of the recommendations

Curious. What year was the motor and hours on it?
Posted on 2/16/24 at 8:22 pm to Elusiveporpi
It should be contained to the heads. The water jacket has voids in it. The motor needs to be tilted up all the way, then back down, to drain all water out before freezing temps. Water and oil got in cycl, but if torn down soon, you should be ok. Replace full heads only.

How many hours baw? Ours crapped out at 500. Cracked head. Not worth fixing.

If it's the block you're screwed, no rebuilding their aluminum blocks. Even if it's a head I doubt the economics are on your side. It's crazy things have gotten to the point a $20k+ outboard is a throw away item but here we are.

What's everyone's take on buying a rebuilt Yammy outboard? I'd like to repower with a 150 but the new design is heavier and I'm fine with sticking to mechanical controls

Heartbreak just around the corner, learned my lesson with rebuilds. Rebuilt outboards are a bottomle$$ pit that try to break your will to live.

2012 and It had around 800 hrs. I took it apart and found a cracked head. Looks like that’s a 4k fix. Hopefully I can fix then sell. The SHO’s don’t have a good rep on the internet. I need to find out if it’s worth more for parts vs paying to fix and then sell.

What do you mean by this? I’m researching parts and it looks like I could buy the head and valves, or the entire head asssmbly. Is that what you are talking about or are you just saying I shouldn’t have to replace the block?

What were you quoted to fix?
Who did you buy the new motor from?

If you have to pay I bet you’re going to have a hard time selling to recoup the investment. Sucks and parting it out isn’t going to be fun. OB’s are disposable today and getting to 4 digit hours is a miracle sometimes.

Told there was no fix. Dealer out of destin. Can’t remember the name.

The head assy(2, port and std)
The block and pistons should be fine.
I say the assembly bc the cams etc will likely be rusted
