He’s not going to promise a kid the Friday night spot while trying to recruit over him. I’m sure he was told he had a shot during player exit interviews but I seriously doubt he was promised anything beyond that.

Ok I admit that "promised" wasn't the correct word that I should have used. And more than one proven starter was necessary so you have to try and recruit over players due to alot of reasons including injury etc IMO.

But if this was based strictly off of the competition results in the scrimmages lately, I don't think that Thatcher "won" the opening day start based off of that alone. I think there are some other things that contribute to this and how he stayed the course and performed last season is part of it.
