That’s kind of weird considering that he was only there 4 years, and they didn’t win any NBA titles.

Pete Maravich never won an NBA Title.
In his 4 years in Orlando, he was
Rookie of the year
4x All-star
1995 NBA Scoring champion
Won their division twice & Eastern conference once

It’s weird that you think that is the criteria that should be used to retire a player number

I lived in O town from 1990 to 2000. I saw the Magic's first game. Expansion ball was a tough watch. It was just a collection of 8th best players on their previous team, and Nick Anderson. Dave Corzine goes down. Jerry Renalds, Terry Catledge, Scott Skiles, etc.
When Shaq was drafted, everything changed. Add Penny a year later... and they became contenders. It was a blast to go to games. NBA on NBC... I saw dudes play... MJ, Malone and Stockton, Magic, The Pacers with Reggie Miller and Mark Jackson, Alonzo Morning, The Knicks with Ewing, etc. Man it was fun.

But if the Magic are insistent on retiring a number for their anniversary, there aren’t many options to pick from. Hardaway and Howard are pretty much it
Picking the franchise’s first ever star who is fairly universally well-liked makes enough sense

It amazes me that LSU allows basketball to be some stepchild of the athletic department.
Demo the existing PMAC, build the greatest basketball arena ever, and break out the checkbook.
