Its literally the exact opposite actually.

It is estimated by vets that 80% of dogs in the US have some dental disease which could be treated successfully with a cleaning performed under general anesthetics. Estimates from the same groups say that somewhere around .02% of those dogs will die if left untreated. The same studies find that 1.29% of dogs put under general anesthesia die in the US each year from anesthesia alone. If these numbers, numbers vets have reported, are true, there a dog is 1.5 times as likely to die from general anesthesia than from dental disease.

What a warped view of veterinarians.

It is a warped view to say that vets are good business people who, like any other business, are in business to maximize profits?

Nice cherry pick. No it is uncommon for pets to die of periodontal disease itself. Typically it can lead to other issues and studies have shown it can potentially larger life threatening problems.

Its been linked to liver and heart disease, can cause abscesses, infections, weight loss, malnutrition, etc.

Which is entirely too high. If Gold standard medicine is followed then this number drops significantly. Its high because a lot of clinics may us anesthesia, but are they using fluids, monitoring, pre-op bloodwork, etc>? If so, then that number drops to almost 0%.

Its actually well known that vets are generally not great business people.

you're full of shite and spreading false statistics. what is your source.

likelihood of anesthetic death in dogs is way less than 1%. several studies have shown it. here is one from the AVMA stating its 0.05% in dogs after a large comprehensive case review. Dipshit. LINK

you clearly only care about what your dog can do for you and don't give two shits about them otherwise. Regular check ups and cleanings can prevent
-Cardiac disease
-Tooth root abscessation that can lead to sepsis
-Pain that can cause behavioral problems

You will invest 15k in training for a dog, but wont protect that investment by making sure the dog stays healthy as long as possible? idiot.

Teeth cleanings are not a scam. they are legit. why does one cost 1k at one vet vs 200 at another? probably because vet A is doing pre-op bloodwork, radiographs, pre-op heart checks, etc to make sure they have all information going into it. Vet B probably is just anesthetizing and going to work. Different approaches for sure. No vet got into the profession to get rich. Could have gotten an MD in relative same amount of time and cost if that was the case.
