I've had this discussion with band mates. I call it the Matchbox 20 dude theory (obviously eliminating Rob Thomas). I want to be the guitar player or drummer or something for Matchbox 20. Get songwriting credits and mailbox money, come up with great hooks and melodies that people will hum along to for decades, and go to Target to pick up toothpaste and deodorant and no one know who I am.

John Deacon, original bass player from Queen, is a good example of that. Wrote a few tunes like You’re My Best Friend and Another One Bites the Dust. Retired to his mansion in the 90s, stays out of the public eye, and watches the royalties roll in. My hero.
