Yeah, by today’s standards it is. But back in the Stone Age, if you wanted to be the leader of a tribe and be able to obtain as much food and resources as possible, you HAD to be the meanest, most ferocious motherfricker towards any opposing tribes. Otherwise, you’d risk getting your entire tribe pillaged and killed.
This way of living continued all the way up to the 1600s. Then, due to the technological revolutions that occurred in the past 200-300 years, this side of homosapiens has been made dormant, at least for most people.

The climax of the movie is the narrator rejecting his relationship with Tyler (as well as all the ideas/excuses Tyler believed in) and embracing his relationship with Marla.
You completely missed the point of the movie.

No. The game just changed but in general the spoils stayed the same. Men compete everyday it is just people like Musk, Bezos, Buffet, and Zuckerberg that are the big winners, not some Cro-Magnon man. There are also plenty of ways to compete in a more primal way everywhere you look. Sad sacks that sit at home on the couch and think of themselves as primal but do nothing to channel that until they explode are almost always just playing the victim. Get out of the house and compete even if you can't compete in the money/power game there are plenty of ways to test yourself against other men instead of brooding about how great it would have been to be born in another time when "men were men".

Luckily humanity has evolved and progressed since then. Acting like we need act like cavemen again is probably one of the worst takes I’ve seen regarding this movie.
