I don't care either way, but it has never been like this. You never had companies like MAPP and Gordon giving potentially millions to players. You never had public-traded companies involved.
It was against the rules, and that precluded a large percentage of alumni and companies getting involved. It was also mostly cash payouts, which was an additional barrier.
Sure, you had people getting no-show jobs and $1,000 bucks here and there. Maybe a high-level guy occasionally got a decent amount of money. But to imply that it has always been like this is fantasy land.

Settle down.
There's nothing unusual or sinister about companies trying to better their communities by encouraging promising minority students by offering assistance with higher education expenses.
