I haven't followed this. I've bought guns for my kids. I'd never expect them to shoot up a school. Did she know their son was a physco and still bought him the gun?

Pretty much, the kid even asked for a mental health professional and the mom laughed him off supposedly. Morning of the shooting parents were called in because he wrote/drew some creepy violent stuff and they said sorry we can’t take him home for the day we have to go back to work. Didn’t mention he has access to a gun and didn’t check his bag.

ETA: still very surprising she’d be found criminally responsible for anything, even with as negligent as she was. Like somebody mentioned it’ll probably be overturned at some point.

Again, this was never proven by the State

They said they prefer not to and the administrators agreed.

Again, these parents made horrible horrible decisions, but getting charged by the government seems ridiculous.

I think what really hurt her with the jury, was when she testified, she said she would do everything exactly the same. Shoulda tugged at their hearts with more of the “of course knowing what we know now we woulda blah blah blah”

The video I've seen where they see him for the first time after is wild. He seems to have no remorse. And the parents are freaked out, but still not nearly to the level I'd be if my son did something like that. I think the mom even texted the dad when they found out the school was on lockdown and immediately said something along the lines of "he did it, he's the shooter".

I'll take my son shooting. I actually want him to learn just how dangerous it is. It is useful and fun, but it's the most serious thing you can handle. But he's not going to have accses to the guns himself and certainly would not continue or allow access if there is a remote possibility he'd be capable of something like this. I can understand that a parent doesn't always know... but, it appears they kind of knew.

This dismissal by all adults in this case is beyond strange for the times we live in. Even without any knowledge of the gun at home, the admins still considered the picture creepy enough to call the parents to come get him. I mean, a 15 year old drawing pictures of guns/blood is weird. You absolutely cannot take chances these days. Why they didn't demand he be removed by the parents and sent for an evaluation is pretty wild.

Furthermore, they let the parents decide, and still didn't check his book sack? Schools search kids for far less than guns because they have to act on behalf of all the children in their care.

I don't know. Look, common for someone to buy their kid a gun. I have a nephew who is 12 and already has 3 guns of his own. He loves deer hunting and he shoots disc. Gun safety has been drilled into him. This past hunting season was the first time his grandpa let him go on a hunt alone at the camp, but otherwise he can only use his guns under supervision.

If a parent knows their kid is unstable or ignores the kid who tells them he needs a mental health pro and yet still allows them to have access to a gun, they should absolutely be held responsible.
