I haven't followed this. I've bought guns for my kids. I'd never expect them to shoot up a school. Did she know their son was a physco and still bought him the gun?

So I buy my son a truck. He has a mental break one day and drives through a parade route and kills people. I’m now liable for negligent homicide?

Pretty much, the kid even asked for a mental health professional and the mom laughed him off supposedly. Morning of the shooting parents were called in because he wrote/drew some creepy violent stuff and they said sorry we can’t take him home for the day we have to go back to work. Didn’t mention he has access to a gun and didn’t check his bag.

ETA: still very surprising she’d be found criminally responsible for anything, even with as negligent as she was. Like somebody mentioned it’ll probably be overturned at some point.

The parents believed he had some mental issues, but nothing on this level. The parents went to school the morning of the shooting cause a he drew a disturbing picture of his gun and blood. Parents and administrators decided the kid could stay at school that day.

There were a lot of mistakes here and I do feel the parents have some to blame, but to charge them with involuntary manslaughter is crazy here. They never knew what the gun was for, he never had a motive, the State didn’t prove they were directly involved by not locking up the gun that morning.

It’s crazy. Again, I think the jurors made an emotional verdict here

Pretty much yes, from what I caught. Stuff like the school telling her he's having violent delusions, watching videos of school shooters at school, etc. and she told the school to get over it and privately told him "don't get caught doing that" so she didnt have to take him to a psych. All while lining up a bang session with Jody

I understand hunting and shotguns, but why would you buy a handgun for a kid?

Yes, ignored many warnings. Both nuanced as well as very direct ones such as the school warning her about her son’s violent tendencies and her refusal to take him home or get him help. There’s a lot more to it than her guilty for her son’s actions and is a good ruling imo
