It's much more likely that he's using Auburn to gain leverage in renegotiating his contract with Ga Tech.

I know. I have seen the reports. However, until he signs a new contract (and it does appear to be dragging on) I do not think these reports or any denial amounts to much. He is number 1 on my list of who I would like to see us get and everything makes sense on the move except for 1 thing - he just signed with Tech last year.

FWI, it also seems that he is #1 on Pat Dye's list (who's opinion carries weight) and possibly a favorite of Lowder (who may or may not be that influential in this proccess, even though many think he is).

Ask yourself this question:

1) Is the greater Opelika metro area a better place to live than Atlanta?
2) Does Auburn truly have more football tradition than Georgia Tech?
3) Do the AD and boosters at Georgia Tech have a better grip on realistic expectations and are they overall a better boss?

i truly believe Tech is one of the great jobs in college football. i think Atlanta is one of the worst places on earth but theres no denying that others like it. its one of the very few football schools in a major city (miami, usc, ucla, and ... ?) the conference is very winnable, theres tons of talent all around, the campus is nice, the stadium is small but cool, and its a fantastic school.

Johnson would be insane to leave all that for auburn. notre dame maybe, miami, even UCLA or texas AM, but not auburn.

UW-Seattle . As bad as they have been this decade they are still in the Top 20 in all time wins.

A lot of arguements could be made on AU's behalf here inlcuding the prestige and national spotlight of playing in the SEC and competing at the highest level in the best conference (as well as the money). As far as the area, Auburn is actually a pretty damn good place to live. I lived there for 5 years in school, as well as Atlanta for 4 years and South Florida for 4. AU is a good place to live. Atlanta is close enough at an 1.5 hour drive and personally (except for the night life which I doubt Johnson cares about) I would say Auburn is a better place to live.

I would think Jim Grobe or Gary Patterson are more realistic options that Johnson. He doesn't seem like the type to leave GT after just one year there. JMO though.

This is not a flame towards Auburn, but I think this coaching search could've been handled much better than it has so far. TT should've stayed at least one more year; this year was not a good one to go looking for a new HC.

Do you really want to hire a guy who will install an option based offensive attack?

I would think that, while he's a good coach, it will pretty much doom Auburn to being a 9-3...team at best.

Money, I agree with you! Antiquated offense. They beat GA because of the weather on a dry feild Ga shuts them down!

Auburn will never hire Johnson. They want a flash O. Some of prefer to win with whatever it takes. The GT option is no fluke. It just wins! Wish LSU would have stayed with the option after we lost RP. We would have won a lot more games. I would bet that the OC was overcalled on this one. Miles likes to gamble, but he lost on this one. The O......stunk!!!! The option is not exciting for some, but I'll take it any day over pics.

The funny part of this statement is that you actually believe this. Georgia's defense is soft, and has been all year.

What you guys are forgetting is that PJ installed the run and shoot at Hawaii after already being an option-run guy because of the talent he had there was different. They threw for 400+ yds per game and pulled out the big upset of BYU in the Ditmer days with a game that had 100 points scored between the two teams.

He wants to put in some run and shoot at GT...and will in the spring...right now our offensive line is too weak to pass block.

Garrett Gabriel, the No. 4 passer in Hawaii history. Johnson was his offensive coordinator from 1987-90.
College Hall of Famer Tracy Ham, who is the only player in history to throw for 5,000 yards and run for 3,000 yards in a career(mid-80's) Johnson was his coach at Georgia Southern.

If he can successfully mix that with the option, man they'll be tough to stop
