I think the 80's were a real struggle for him. The firm like it or hate it was Paul Rogers trying to help his friend climb out of abuse and depression. It was the start, he then met Patricia Ecker in New Orleans and started a family which also helped.

His Outrider album was pretty good IMO. I think his playing really rebounded in the 90's. Coverdale/Page was very good. The first Page Plant tour he was back but not where he needed to be they brought in Porl Thompson to help out. The second Page Plant tour post Porl Thompson when Jimmy was the only guitarist he played quite well. I saw multiple concerts on both tours. Then the Black Crowes work was great as well it's a shame his back gave out. I love listening to that album but I must admit I can only tolerate so much of Chris Robinson trying to be Robert Plant before I have to take a brake.
