I don't see what the problem is. Do you not understand that vacations are often times planned several months in advance?

I should go on a job interview and tell them I have a month long trip to the Swiss Alps just for the fun of it and see what they say.

Benefits are negotiated (if at all) after the interview process. If it were to be discussed, it should be then. But, that being said, if I was hiring someone for a position that came with 6 weeks PTO I would make sure I would ask them, before an offer was made, if they had any PTO planned soon and if so / when so that we could factor that into the negotiations.

Not the Swiss Alps, but twice I’ve interviewed, once for a new position and once for a new job, with a 3+ week international vacation already scheduled, one to Japan and one to Spain. Both times I was told that would be fine and got both.

Sounds like you just aren’t a very attractive candidate in your field
