Seattle Times

quote:

The fuselage panel that blew off an Alaska Airlines jet earlier this month was removed for repair then reinstalled improperly by Boeing mechanics on the Renton final assembly line, a person familiar with the details of the work told The Seattle Times.

If verified by the National Transportation Safety Board investigation, this would leave Boeing primarily at fault for the accident, rather than its supplier Spirit AeroSystems, which originally installed the panel into the 737 MAX 9 fuselage in Wichita, Kan.

The Seattle Times offered Boeing the opportunity to dispute the details in this story. Citing the ongoing investigation, Boeing declined to comment.

Boeing is so fricked.

I'd have hated to be on that flight, but it was basically winning the lottery. All those passengers are going to get paid.

Fun fact Spirit uses a fleet for A321’s to fly.

Airbus for the win and of all places some of them are assembled in Mobile, Alabama of all places.

Bad day for Boeing.

Nose Wheel Falls Off Delta Boeing 757 Shortly Before Takeoff in Atlanta

quote:

A Boeing 757 jet full of passengers experienced a peculiar incident as its nose wheel detached and rolled away while awaiting takeoff clearance on the runway, with nearly 200 passengers on board. Delta Air Lines Flight 982 was on the verge of taking off from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta last Saturday when, according to a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration released on Monday, the wheel “came off and rolled down the hill.”

The issues are tied to design, part manufacturers and sub contractors. Boeing is largely just the assembler of the aircraft who puts their name on the aggregation of sourced parts.

Boeing survived MCAS and that was a much worse outcome for the crews and passengers involved.

They’re also getting hammered on the space systems side as well. They haven’t adapted well to the elimination of cost plus contracts, and companies like SpaceX are dominating them. Their mistakes with the Starliner are terrible -using flammable tape for wiring and weak links in the parachute system. The tape issue is unforgivable considering the history of Apollo 1.
