I knew of Aaron Slayter through my father. Slayter made his millions with a paper recycling business. Evidently he died in 2023. Looks like the house had finally sold after a long time on and off the market.

Apparently Aaron Slayter didn’t manage his money very well.He also owned 7,000 acres across Rigolette bayou from me.3500 acres he had leased out for farming.
The other 3500 acres he developed into a hunting resort type operation.Built a really nice house for a lodge.Had a website advertising for hunting. It only lasted one year,he went bankrupt, lost everything.
The land was sold at auctions, house was also I believe.
I was told he had 6 million in the Horseshoe Dr. house, also bought the two house behind it and paid a pretty penny for them.I know the people that owned the 2 houses, very nice houses but he offered a price they couldn’t refuse.
The retired trooper in the hit and run,I worked with his wife. One of nicest people ever,I feel really bad for her.I met him at a party,he seemed like a nice guy.He drank a couple beers, that was all.
Doesn’t excuse the incident but I can’t imagine why anyone would ride a bicycle on Horseshoe Dr.Narrow,no shoulder and people drive way too fast on it.
I had an old boss that was killed few blocks from there, she ran off the road in a curve and hit a tree.

quote:UtahCajun, I remember seeing the house as it was being built. I knew of Aaron Slayter through my dad who was a friend of his. I moved out of Cenla about the same time you did, never looked to go back. Married an '87 ASH grad coincidentally...LOL
Was trying to remember this house since I grew up in Alexandria, but had no idea where this was. I moved away after I graduated in '87. That whole area was still vacant at that time.

“You sure that’s where that property was”
Absolutely positive.
The north boundary of the 3500 acres farmland is Rigolette Bayou, not sure of the south boundary. It is entered through a gate on Kateland Rd.
The north boundary of the 3500 acre hunting property is Rigolette bayou, the south boundary is the Red River levee.
My wife’s old boss’s father-in-law bought the 3500 acre hunting property at the auction.

I drove a fairly nice (for back then) '82 Cutlass that my mother gave to me. Was ugly tan with dark brown top, but I was glad to have it at the time. Lived in the very front of Martin Park. I hear that neighborhood is no longer a good neighborhood.
If we did know each other, I hope life has treated you well and I hope you got out. Elleck was great as a kid/teen back then, but I saw no future in it and once my parents/brother moved to Covington, I never had a reason to go back.

Imagine if he had paid merely $1m cash for a nice house in Alexandria or even Pineville if he had wanted more land(not like he was just spreading out there on Horseshoe Drive). Just imagine what that $5m+ surplus could be doing for him to this day...

I’m a dumbass, I was thinking something different

He’s probably paying more in demolition than the property’s worth. Plus the reported 1.2ish million he paid for it. Seems insane, but not my monkey not my circus.
On another note, the subdivision across the road snubbing him is apparently accurate and the rest of that story is that he built an observation deck on top of the building so he could look down on them from across the road. lol.

He returned to the scene after the first responders were there?? Not a very smart move.

quote:It has taken forever to go to court that is for sure. He sold his house here in the neighborhood about 6 months ago or so? He had become a pariah with terrible relationships in the hood here. I dont think it had much to do with the accident, but I am sure it didnt help.

quote:But controlling who or what is right next to your living space has a value you just cant put a price tag on. No one, and it mean no one was going to buy that home for anywhere near a million, next thing you know someone buys it for a event center for weddings and reunions type shite and you have a party in your backyard every weekend. I love it, he will do something tasteful and pretty for us all to enjoy versus looking at a shell of a big arse house.

Once Mrs. Slayter passed away, the nearly 18,000sqft house, which was already way too large for two people, was for sure too large for one. So he began trying to sell it around 2009 for close to $3million. Last I knew, it was listed around $1.7 million back during Covid. Mr. Shelton purchased it in 2021,
there are some parts missing...Apparently a group of investors bought it in 2016. Looks like they split $600,000 minus $20,000 or so for taxes a year and realtor fees.
