My mother was detained in China Whalen they lived there, my father was arrested and brought before a judge. If it weren’t for some incredibly quick thinking on his part, he was probably headed to jail (false charges concerning finances, but the CCP doesn’t care about the truth).
The people there only have value to the CCP if they are productive.
Again, China is one of the few (only?) countries on the planet that could feasibly manage an economic collapse.

They don't have enough replacement young people to produce low-margin items in any volume resembling pre-Covid output.

Their living standards will decline like everyone else, and the CCP will be presiding over that failure. Xi would have to admit his entire time in leadership was a failure, after spending hundreds of billions of CCP money on that vision.
