Olive Branch and Southaven seem to be more of the popular northern Mississippi suburbs to live in.

These are actual suburbs of Memphis. Tupelo isn’t a suburb of anywhere. It’s just a larger small city by itself. It boomed when the TVA was formed as it was the first city to get electricity from that which led to it becoming a manufacturing center.

It’s consistently grown in population, has around 40k. Fairly low crime, good public schools. Nice downtown area and then your typical suburb style/chain stores and restaurants on the main drag. It’s a nice town, kind of a hybrid between old southern charming small town and new suburban corporate America.

I’d rank it above Hattiesburg, Meridian, Greenville, Columbus, Southaven, Batesville but below Biloxi/Ocean Springs and Olive Branch (other similar sized small cities in MS)

Columbus, Magee, and Yazoo City worth a mention.
