NIL Deals for Walk Ons

There have been a lot of questions about whether or not a walk on can have a NIL deal that pays for their tuition. As I remember it, BYU had a plan in place to do this exact thing.

Wonder if they cut a scholarship player and offer a nil deal instead, as a walk on.
That’s one way around 85

Not sure but I think there are limits on the number of eligible players who can play in a game in a season.
It would be a way to stockpile depth for future years though.

It depends how a player was “recruited”. A walk-on counts toward the 85 limit the second they play in a game if they took an official visit or if there was in person contact off-campus.

Doesn't matter. The FSU QB that was a "4 star" and "agreed" to walk on is hot garbage.

Because the kid is "garbage", does that change the fact people are trying to figure out the rules? Is Ausberry garbage? Some tend to think so, some don't. Hes doing the same thing so I'd say it's relevant to the conversation.

Yea that’s not true. Drew Alleman was never on scholarship and never counted toward the 85. Neither did Daniel Graff until they gave him one his sr year. Joseph Creppel never did.

Florida State gets hit with NIL violations and given 2 years probation. What do they do but turn around and take 6 transfers from Bama. Basically FU NCAA! How you like me now? What are you going to do about it?

Why isn't walk-ons supporting the walk ons?
Bad joke...but some kids get scholarships for good grades and don't need the football scholly

LSU baseball is using this to it's advantage.

HELLO ... how could anyone forget PE ? Kid lit up vs. LSU when playing for SELA, walked on at LSU, got an NIL deal from Walk-Ons that paid for his tuition, 3x Academic SEC Honor Roll, and graduated from LSU with his diploma. Parker had a dream and lived it out to the fullest

Why can’t lsu do the same and use the 85 scholarship's in percentages like Baseball Does

Which of those players took official visits or had in home visits?

The limit in football is 85 players, not 85 full scholarships.

Just give them 126k a year and they can pay whatever

NCAA rules allow for 105 players to be rostered before the first day of class or the first game, whichever comes first. When school is in session, there is no limit to the number of players on the roster. Scholarship limit is 85.

That’s the limit on the number of players on scholarship. You can’t just break those scholarships apart and hand out partial scholarships to more than 85 players. That’s not how it works for football. It’s based on head count, not scholarship dollar amount.
