It’s crazy how much they resemble.

Trey is my favorite pelican but Hawk is still climbing up the ranks lol.

He is genuinely looking like he might become a franchise leading player.
He has it in him.
How nuts would that be if we landed another ridiculous talent on top of what we’ve already built.
He’s clearly going to be very good at worst.

I just listened to Christian Clark's podcast, and he and Adam McCreary were discussing how improved his defense is. And they're right: he's not getting lost in rotations, and when he's isolated on a guard, I no longer assume that the guy is going to blow right by him.
Hawk's defense is still poor, because he's still a rookie with a small frame, but it's a lot better than it was, and that has a big impact on us winning the minutes that he's on the floor.
If he ends up adding 10 lbs of muscle this summer, I think he could be a league-average defender next season.

I think he'll be a good defender with 10-15lbs of muscle on him. 205 is a good weight for him. His effort and IQ is there. Just need his body to catch up.

I know people were worried about Willie going away from him after the Dallas game, but this quote from Willie after that game says it all:
quote:
“He was terrific,” Pelicans coach Willie Green said of Hawkins. “He was locked in from the very start of the game. His game-plan discipline was off the charts. His ability to hit shots, but not only hit shots but continue to make the right play on both sides of the basketball.”

Game plan discipline was off the charts. That's how you get more minutes.
