Bama's Early Enrollees Potentially Get Screwed by Saban's Timing

1. Alabama has at least 16 early enrollees this recruiting cycle
2. If requested, a recruit/commit must be automatically released from their letter of intent if (1) the coach leaves, AND (2) they haven't attended classes yet
3. Alabama's spring semester started yesterday, January 10th
Because Saban waited to announce his retirement until after classes started, the early enrollees are no longer entitled to an automatic release from their NLI. They will have to ask Bama to release them voluntarily. If Bama doesn't consent, the EEs would have to take an appeal to the NLI committee or stick around for the spring semester and THEN transfer out.
They still have multiple avenues to get out if they want, but because of Saban's timing they will have to jump through hoops.

That is cutthroat on Saban's part.

Dude has impacted the lives of thousands of kids I don’t think he really deserves much scrutiny about his decision making and character

If bama doesn’t release them, that is SHITTY on their part.
And do they expect to not release these kids and they play their hearts out? They’ll eventually leave, just let them leave now imo

Yeah I’m sure Saban was trying to screw over all of the kids that he just signed

They all can and probably will all leave in spring transfer portal if the Gumps try this shite.

They wanted college football to pay them like a business.

Or they could enter the transfer portal quickly and find a new school to attend before new school's last day to enroll for the spring semester. Granted this will burn their one time free transfer without having to sit out a year per current NCAA by-law, but who knows what the results of the lawsuit/temporary injunction against the NCAA re: additional transfer/year is residence restriction will have.

Leave then get a lawyer. The NCAA will fold once again.

I think you are looking at this wrong. He want screwing over the kids, he was helping out the university. There is now chance anyone could convince me that he decided to announce on the day school started. Greatest coach ever? Yes. Known liar? Also yes! Does “I will not be the next head coach at Alabama” ring any bells?

I don’t know about yall but I never went to the first day of class.

What was he supposed to do? He wasn’t going to retire before the playoff.
The early signing period is the problem. And it’s weird because the coaches bitch about where it is in the calendar. But they’re the ones that wanted the early signing period.
And the players have to basically sign early unless they’re a highly coveted recruit. Otherwise, they risk having an offer pulled at the school they really want to attend because the school finds someone else for that spot if it’s not accepted during the early period. For every Dominick McKinley, there are 10-15 players who are interchangeable in a class.

That’s what they get for being groupies who signed to a school with a 72 year old coach.

They will have to ask Bama to release them voluntarily.
How much effort would a player exert if he doesn't want to be with the team?

They can enter the portal in the spring can’t they?
Posted on 1/11/24 at 5:52 pm to SonOfDad
This is a non-issue. Every single player on Alabama’s roster, including all the new signees/early enrollees, have a 30 day window to transfer if they’d like to.

Saban would never do such a thing...
