Why would anyone think Dan Lanning would leave Oregon?

Any coach that is a barely functional human being would never leave Oregon for the stress and pressure of an SEC job.
As an Oregon resident I can tell you Lanning has it made. People here are mostly pro sports fans and still know they’re not a blue blood. He doesn’t have 1/10th the pressure he’d experience going to an SEC school-especially Alabama.
Eugene is surrounded by incredible outdoors; UO has top five facilities; their NIL is elite; they run the west coast; and above all we hear about how tired and stressed coaches are in the NIL era and anyone with common sense would never put that on themselves.
This isn’t a slight at Alabama. I would laugh my arse off if he were foolish enough to take the LSU job. Lanning not taking the Alabama job and joining the SEC roller coaster is simply a wise move. He’s not remotely as good and smart of a coach as I think he is if he took the offer.
ETA: I don’t blame Alabama shooting for the fences but just saying the trolling of Alabama’s demise is a bit of a joke if he doesn’t accept an offer. You’d be an idiot to sign up for the stress.

Lol at the thought that Alabama would give the keys of their program to a 37 year old dude with just 2 years HC experience.
Dude isn’t going anywhere because he isn’t getting the call.

i agree with all this. people seem to forget that there are other factors to deciding where you wanna be than recruiting base.
you also have to actually live there and do the job.
he has it made at Oregon and will have a shot to be in the playoffs every year. he also doesn't have to worry about people threatening his family if they don't win the playoffs like he would in Bama.

Lanning was on the Pat McAfee show and said he turned down the job. So he was offered and said NFW.

Well that’s the nature of head coaching searches. Everyone laughed at LSU hiring Brian Kelly but that’s so incredibly rare. Oklahoma is a top 10 job and they hired a career assistant. Florida hired a sun belt head coach. Georgia hired an assistant coach (seems to have paid off).
He’s perfectly capable of keeping Alabama a top program and they’d be dumb to not go after him.

I think Lanning is a very good coach and am happy he is staying in Eugene

If you asked Alabama fans a week ago if they could hire away Lanning the overwhelming response would be yes, so that’s the cause for a lot of trolling. I understand it and your points but I’m surprised he even turned it down.

I wish they would. But they are smarter than that.

Because people think wins and pedigree is all that matters.
In reality, while Bama has all the pedigree in the world, as well as elite facilities, there's plenty of negatives.
-Tuscaloosa isn't a great destination
-Following in the footsteps of an insurmountable level set.
-Admin and fanbase that know nothing but winning and will have a short leash.
-Harder road to the playoffs.
Oregon is prob the better long term job for a young coach.
That being said, you go to Bama and win and you're on the college coaching Mt. Rushmore. High risk high reward.

You really think he couldn’t consistently win at Alabama? LSU won a national title with Ed orgeron and Les miles, and you don’t think Lanning could arguably elevate Alabama’s talent with a better roster
What did you think about Georgia hiring Kirby Smart? Georgia is an elite job and he had never even been a head coach.

Because every coach worth their salt has left Oregon.

Oregon just isn’t the same job now that USC is a mess. It’s THE West Coast program, and I don’t think Lincoln Riley is USC’s savior.
I support the Oregon schools but surprised at the posts I read at times on here about how the job is perceived. It’s a damn near perfect job in the stressful NIL era when your typical SEC job has everyone scrutinizing your every move.

Having been to a few games in Eugene I must say it’s a great venue for college football and one of the best college towns around. The weather from late fall to spring can suck

And what exactly have they accomplished? Cristobal and that Florida state ex coach weren’t even that good. Kelly would love to be back at UO compared to UCLA. Like I said-a smart coach would stay.

It’s not really about that. He could certainly be successful there. It’s more about the fact that they are Alabama and they have the luxury of being able to pick a proven, experienced winner with less risk. They’ll get the first or second guy on their list. I’d be completely shocked if lanning was in their top 5 of candidates with his pedigree. And I don’t believe for a second that he has already been offered and turned down the job.

It was a risky hire at the time and Georgia was not an elite program like Alabama when he was hired. Georgia took a risk and it worked out.
Lanning could be Kirby smart or he could be Tom Herman. Alabama is not the program that will have to risk figuring that out.

Because having to live in Oregon has to suck.

Many Oregon towns and cities are literally 10x more beautiful and enjoyable than Houston

You’re arguing that Lanning isn’t a sure fire while acting like any coach right now is a sure fire. Dabo isn’t doing hot right now. Is he on the decline?
There is no nick Saban but you go after the guy who has the best current track record to be long term and elite and that’s simply Dan Lanning.
And you’re discrediting Georgia. Everyone knew Georgia was a sleeping giant with the instate talent and their money. And after all that they hired a career assistant. There is no sure fire guy anymore and it’s kind of a joke to say they’re so smart they wouldn’t go after Dan Lanning. They’d be dipshits to not hire him for the potential reward

Sorry. Bad weather. Huge libtards. No thanks. Houston is 100x better than living in a shithole like Oregon.
