Jr high (7th grade) is a pretty normal time to start tackle football…so 12. Not a big deal IMO

Watch a prepubescent 12 year old face off with a 6’2 230lb 8th grader. It happens a lot. I have no problem with youth football but that’s probably because we aren’t idiots and we make sure the other coaches aren’t idiots. My opinion is kids should play at least a year before getting to jr high. I’ve seen flag footballers get absolutely wrecked because they don’t understand getting tackled. They pick it up quick or quit

They have 7th grade teams and 8th grade teams…and hardly enough players to make a roster. My son never played flag or peewee, but at that level it’s pretty easy to pick up.

He played QB and made it all of 4 games before separating his AC joint and breaking the growth plate in his upper arm. That was because the refs suck and they were tackling him out of bounds repeatedly. Still played QB in 8th, they just didn’t run him anymore.
