I was in Tokyo this past summer and it way less expensive than NYC. I’m always surprised by how expensive Miami is compared to NYC. NYC is still my favorite city in the world and it’s worth the cost to experience a some of its offerings.

Tokyo is similar to NYC in that you can do it cheap if you wanted. But why? Both have amazing cheap street food and affordable lodging. Both also offer the high end.

In the 60s and 70s, real estate companies from NYC bought real estate in Miami and marketed it to Wall Street workers as the ultimate vacation city. As a result, a shite ton of white collar retirees from NYC moved there and basically turned it into a tropical version of NYC.
