Guitarists- Parting With an Axe Stories

Any of you guitarists ever parted with a guitar out of necessity or for any reason for that matter and later regretted it? Would love to hear the stories. One of my biggest was a G&L Tele that I sold to a friend because I needed the money. Good news is he said he will always sell it back to me if I want it back. I may take him up on it.

Had a cream pink BC Rich Warlock bass as a teen sold to a pawn shop. Was heavier than shite. My first bass. Regret it to this day.

Other direction.
Best bud sold me his acoustic for the price Gruhn Guitars was offering in trade for a D-28. Really nice 70's Yairi, one of those that people always remark about. Flash forward 20 years and he's bought a 40 foot Catalina and hesitant to bring along an even newer Gold Age Vintage something another; so on his birthday ... you got it returned it to him as gift... and his jaw dropped. And now it's got a new home that we both can enjoy.
What a good feeling.

BC Rich Warlock bass
I had a BC Rich Warlock guitar, and it was stolen from my house when I had a giant party.
Only had it about a month. Never really played it much. At least they didn't steal my '74 Strat. I think about that BC Rich every time I see my Strat.

There are about a half dozen guitars out there from my past that part of me would like to have back. But truth be told, I value more what they taught me about hanging on to the guitars that matter more than I miss said MIAs.
I teach the young players that come in my shop who ooh and ah at some of the jewels they encounter on the shop walls ... you are going to come across 6 to 12 guitars in your playing lifetime that are PERFECT for YOU in every aspect. And you know it the minute you pick them up in both your head and your heart.
The trick is to not only acquire those lifers but to hang on to them through thick and thin and GAS attacks ... so you DON'T have those regretful "one that got away" stories.

My brother had that exact guitar. He never bothered learning to play it—only practiced his “moves” with it.

Got a really good deal on a Yamaha classical when I was younger. I started to get frustrated playing it so it went to a good home. That thing sounded absolutely amazing and I miss it, but the guy I sold it to got a lot more out of it than I ever could.
