Looking at various news when he hired at Michigan, his deal is $1.875M for 3 years. $625K was 1st year I believe and will make $650K in 2024. Seems like a more reasonable candidate to try and give a raise to. With news Bo Davis is out (Expected and was to make $1.1M at Texas 2024) expect LSU to target these type of guys that we can offer a big raise but not be unreasonable.

Elston would be a great hire. He's been a RC and DL coach for Kelly. Been with him for 18 years before taking the Michigan job.

Jimmy Lindsey was hired at around $750K starting and Jamar Cain at around $800K. Seems like a $100-150K bump for Elston would make things work. Looks like LSU is comfortable paying around $900K in last year of contract for a dline coach. That that was how much Cain was supposed to make.

Elston graduated from Michigan. I don't think he'll be as easy of a pull as you think.

Working the last 18 years before the Michigan job with Kelly would sure help:

1997 Michigan (SA)
1998 Michigan (intern)
1999–2000 Michigan (GA)
2001 Eastern Michigan (DE)
2002–2003 Eastern Michigan (DL/RC)
2004 Central Michigan (DL)
2005 Central Michigan (co-DC/DL)
2006 Central Michigan (LB/ST)
2007–2008 Cincinnati (TE/ST/RC)
2009 Cincinnati (AHC/DL/ST)
2010 Notre Dame (DL/ST)
2011–2014 Notre Dame (DL)
2015–2016 Notre Dame (LB/RC)
2017 Notre Dame (DL/RC)
2018–2021 Notre Dame (AHC/DL)

2022–present Michigan (DL/RC)

Didn’t Elston turn BK down when he tried to bring him over from Notre Dame in 2021?

He wont be an easy pull, but money CAN be a factor here, unlike Bo Davis. However, he did turn down Kelly on coming to LSU for reasons unknown but did mention family or something like that and did say everything isnt about money etc. Who knows if his situation changed and if money is now a factor, but it can be.

Excellent hire. Cudos for manhandling Bama in the Rose Bowl.
