Part of that is having BI guard more at the POA, which allows Herb to be a secondary defender (which he is the best I've ever seen at) having BI play up on the primary wing scorer also takes away BI's biggest weakness imo, which is ball watching when defending the corner shooter and allowing backdoor cuts. Smart move by Willie.

My memory's a bit fuzzy on this, but I think I remember Stan making that move with both BI and Zion and the defense started turning around, because they could handle the simple instruction of stay in front of their man much better than their rotation assignments.

Good stuff. Willie's only problem at the moment...is when the other team has a stud offensive player that BI just can't guard. Then, you gotta put Herb on him & lose Herb's strongest trait... his off-ball defense. This is why I think Dyson is SO VERY important in the Pels becoming a serious contender. IMO, DD is just a tad below Herb in on-ball defense...so you can leave Herb to "roam" & let DD slow down that stud offensive player. Now...if we can just get Herb & DD BOTH shooting about 36% from the 3-pt line, we can have 2 very good defenders out there at the same time.

I'm hard-pressed to think of a single "contender" that only has ONE very good defender on the court at crunch time. Bottom line...Dyson is far more important for the Pels' future...than most think...and the Pels know it.

I will be VERY interested to see how we guard LAC tonight.

I imagine that we'll see mostly Herb and Dyson on Harden, because BI and CJ simply can't handle him.

But when Harden is off the floor, does BI initially guard the ball, regardless of whether it's Kawhi or PG13 who initiates? I think so. I think BI guards the ball, and Herb is on the other one.
