He was way short on talent and this past year, many of transfers didn’t work out. What I didn’t understand was the lack of tackling. Many of these kids were good athletes coming out of HS but they missed WAY too many tackles. That can improve but it didn’t. He played the secondary deep cause he had to. He was trying to prevent teams from going deep. It wasn’t all House but he is the head guy for the defense so he’s ultimately responsible.

there was very good legitimate reasons why irish had to force BK to fire house.

when BK stupidly brought him here, i knew it was going to be a shite show.

BK caused this problem 100%

I suppose the thirty nine players left by Orgeron and Staff went to the NFL.
We had to depend on Kelly's staff and unfortunately they coached like Woody's Boy, Pellini.

I guess my question is how do you possibly drop 50 spots in the ranking when you did not have a catastrophic loss of talent or anything in particular happen where you can put your finger to it and say welp.. this is why. Sure our secondary was horrible and we had some tough injuries but to go from slightly above average to letting Wisconsin pass all over you seems ridiculous. I think House was just THAT bad of a coach.

House has proven he can be average to good (he had one great season at UK) IF he has the perfect setup to play his scheme exactly as he wants. The problem is that it all falls apart when he doesn’t.

Last year, we had a lot of experienced key veterans who held the defense together. That included all of the portal guys who played big roles in the secondary and on the DL. In the secondary we added JBC, who was very experienced, and 2 guys from Arkansas. That was key because Odom also ran a TON of zone, so they knew what to do as soon as they hit the field. House had enough guys to understand and run his overcomplicated scheme without dumbing it down. And even with this, we were still just an average to above average defense.

What you saw this year was what happens when you give House less experienced players who can’t get his scheme in one offseason. He isn’t a good enough or creative enough to adjust his system to them and he obviously can’t teach them how to run it very well. He can only be successful if you give him exactly what he needs to run what he wants every season, but that just isn’t possible, especially with the way the portal and NIL work today.

Great coaches never stop learning and growing and even good coaches are capable of being flexible and adjusting. House has none of these traits.

The whole team is behind the play every time. Speed! This is the slowest D I’ve seen at LSU. Even when we sucked with Polinni (spl?) we
had some speed!

Don’t underestimate the loss of jimmy lindsey before the start of the season being a major reason for the D doing so poorly

They need to do a medical examination on House before he departs.

I think he may have been kicked in the head by a mule or something.

It's the only explanation I can think of. Look for a hoof indentation on his forehead for love of Pete, think of the children!

Not sure, but this was hands down one of the worst defenses LSU has seen in a long time. If not for Daniels, we could have easily have had a 6-7 win season. I pray Coach Kelly finds a really good DC.

When you look at the talent gone from last year’s roster compared to the players who took their place, I do see quite a drop off in talent. Of course it is the main job of the coaching staff to make sure that doesn’t happen.

I’m beginning to think he lost the respect of the players. Wingo has posted several things lately that seem to indicate that. I think House was a poor communicator which makes sense as to why the players looked lost, out of position.

Turnovers we averaged less than 1 fumble and less than 1 interception per game...

money downs...3rd down and 11 was the same thing as 3rd and 1 for the oppenents so many times.

Safety play on big plays was really bad technique.

that is my 3 KPIs for 2023 defense that they failed at.

Quality control guys on defense needed to do more work....lack of prep and film work on opponents was obvious...there literally were simple schemes that were beating LSU no reason to get exotic...FLA St realized this at half and so did the rest of the country...the wins LSU had were because we could out athlete them....the losses were because the athletes couldn't overcome the lazy schemes.
