I have pretty strong opinions about that shite. In short, QA testers should be like security guards, not cops. The behavior I need is for them to go where I say and then "observe and report." They are neither smart nor knowledgeable enough to exercise authority or make decisions, and if they're encouraged to, I will do what I do to stupid people: trick them into getting out of the way. That's easy enough, but it robs us of what we really need: someone to observe and report.
