Sage is a part of the reason we are not stable on defense. Maybe it is due to his youth or that he is out of position. What bothers me the most is that he seems slow even against the Wisconsin receivers. He doesn’t track the ball well or trust his eyes and he doesn’t tackle well. BK needs to get a couple of good dbs from the portal. Maybe a fast, sure tackling lb and a fast defensive end that can put pressure on an offense. With these additions, sage could concentrate at safety and maybe turn the corner? They are there

His youth? This was his third season. Second getting significant playing time. He's a veteran player in college football terms.

The issue is, and always has been, that he is a "tweener". He's not quick and instinctive enough to be a CB. He's not big and physical enough to be a safety.

Is it nice, for depth purposes, to have a guy who at least seems to quasi know what he is supposed to be doing? Sure. But if Ryan is the top player in the secondary next season, regardless of position, LSU is still in a lot of trouble. That probably sounds mean. But it is what it is.
