I'm new here although I lurked this site for many years. There is a lot of good information and opinions exchanged here and Im hoping this topic will be as well. Does anyone have any experience with the Mossberg patriot rifle? It seems to have good reviews and I was looking at one with the wood stock. The price seems great but I still haven't pulled the trigger on buying one yet. Any opinions will be appreciated.

I've got some experience with a mossberg ATR, which I believe is basically the same thing. Shoots great. I imagine the patriot is similar. If you like it, buy it. Nobody makes inaccurate rifles anymore.

I have a 25-06 Patriot in wood and it’s been a good rifle, but I generally grab my Tikka 308 most of the times. The Patriot was a pure impulse buy.

This is were I'm at right now. Is the Tikka that much better than the patriot?

I have a patriot in .270 that I picked up brand new in a trade. I put a Leupold scope on it and it with factory ammo it will consistently shoot 1/4 to 1/2" groups at 100. I kid you not, I have many high-end and custom bolt guns and I think the Patriot is the most consistently accurate bolt action that I own. I have only shot a couple of boxes out of it, but it started on the money and stayed on the money. I don't do anything with it, but I will never get rid of it either.
As far as fit and finish, the wood stock is nice, the metal finish is OK, the bolt is a little rough but adequate, the trigger is OK. I have it adjusted as low as it will go at about 3.5 lbs. It's fairly crisp.

Yes. Patriots are not bad, but the tikka is so much better for a relatively small jump in price.

I think that Tikka is better quality for the difference in price.

Wife shoots a 6.5 creedmore. Awesome gun she has killed at least 10 deer with only 1 running. That deer only went 20 yards.

I have the patriot in 308 with the wood stock. No complaints.

Thanks to all that replied.i got a lot of good info. My plan was to do what Tigerinthewoods did but use it for hunting. I was looking at a 270 as well.

I used Federal fusion 130 grain from the start and didn't have to try anything else. So I bought ten boxes from LINK . I can't attest to performance of FF (haven't used it in my hunting guns), only to it's accuracy in my particular Patriot. Maybe someone else can offer something on FF for you.
Good luck!

I went on a guided prairie dog hunt about 5-6 years ago and the guide's gun was a Mossberg Patriot in 223 Rem. It was a very accurate and very functional gun. I think it's a good gun for the price. I think of the Patriot as an entry level gun so I don't expect it be as refined as a Tikka. OTOH, if you're shopping on a budget for an accurate and functional bolt action, I think it'd be hard to beat the Patriot.
