How bad is it right now in NOLA? Any of you deal with this recently
On another note, how early do I have to arrive to get a parking spot in the garage across Rampart from the Saenger?

It’s happening for sure.
But here’s the truth… google says greater NO population is 1.2 million. So let’s say there’s 500,000 cars in the area. That’s less than half the population.
If 10 cars are broken into or stolen each day, then that’s 0.00002% of cars affected daily. So if your car is there every day of the year, you have a 0.007% chance of it being broken into or stolen at some point each year.
Yes, it’s happening.
Yes, it can happen to you.
No, it’s not statistically probable that your car will be affected.

The waves of the mass car window breaking seems to have subsided. During the peak, groups of mostly teenagers would go around the city and break the window on every car on a street, then haul arse in a stolen car. They would even hit the parking areas of large events like concerts and sports events.
There seemed to be no motive except “frick you”. Sure, they’d steal something if was right in plain view, but they mostly just moved quickly down the street, smashing.
Now we’re back to regular car theft and break-ins, which is significant but not as massive as those waves of roaming frickwads.

The problem was solved after the DA declined to charge dindus engaging in that activity.

My niece had her car broken into down the street from Wrong Iron last week.

Any reason you picked such a comically small number for the daily rate?

Certainly seems to have died down. Still hearing about windows getting hit, but nowhere near as often.
A year or so back the feds hit some rings that were thought to be the source. Really has mattered.
Carjackings seem to have slowed dramatically as well.

The shitty math is the bigger issue here.

Didn’t hear much about the break ins because I assume people moved on to stealing Kia and Hyundai cars. I think the secret is out for people with those cars: sell your car, move out, hope it gets totaled/never returned, or get wheel lock/software update.
I am sure thugs will just move on to the next thing
Stolen Autos NOLA still being stolen

Think the narrative here is to address how shitty NO is. Try to keep up.

He was only off by a factor of 100
Using his own very low estimate, it's approximately 1 in 136 chance you are affected by this.

It’s moved up the interstate into Baton Rouge

No one reports it any more because the NOPD doesn’t answer the phone.
All crime stats go down when the police don’t answer the phone.

Yeah. They've moved on to cleaning shelves off at Walgreens.

Guy on my soccer team had his car stolen in city park a few weeks ago. Same night the Cafe Du Monde in city park was robbed. Coulda been the same guys.

Have not noticed much of a problem recently, or heard people complaining of a big problem. We park on the street near University Medical Center during Saints games without any issues all year. This past game I noticed multiple University police vehicles roaming around the area for protection, which was reassuring.
