Does UIL stream? I have YouTube tv so I don’t get Bally’s

It's only through Ballys but your smart TV could add the app. I did the 7 day free trial to watch and have every intention of canceling after Saturday games are over. No ragerts.

Graduated from Bellville and will be at the game Friday. I don’t know a ton about Gilmer except they were the powerhouse in the years before I graduated in ‘09.

Have some friends in Bellville and visited many times, nice little town within very close proximity of my favorite fun bass fishing lake. I will pulling for them since Duncanville knocked us out of the playoffs early.

Do parts of Texas play 8 or 6 man football? Is that part of UIL?

Six-man, and yes. It is the UIL’s 1A classification.

Some thought so far and going into remaining games.

Texas high school football is special. It has been because of the shear number of great teams around the state. You have programs that make deep runs every year and programs that put really special seasons together for a few years with a great class or two. But right now, THSFB is broken. The UIL is scared to do anything about open enrollment/magnet schools, and that’s why we are getting NS/DV every year. DV has 9 starters that don’t live in Duncanville. NS is similar. SOC has kids from all over south Dallas. Southlake had an all-state running back that was allowed to move in from a neighboring district. Aledo continually has kids move in from all over Fort Worth.

UIL football at the highest classifications isn’t really competitive right now and it will only get worse if the UIL doesn’t step up.

Now to 6-Man football. Is there ever a competitive 6 man game? Every score I look at is just blowouts and mercy rules. Even the state finals are always laughably one sided. Maybe time to rethink some rules or go to 8-man but keep the same size field.

When i was growing up in the valley i think one of the little western starr county towns was 6 man. La Gloria or La Grulla but think they’re 2A now

I’ve watched a handful of six man games in person. Really are something else. Almost a different sport.

What’s the difference between Division I and II?

My understanding is the following: In every class other than 6A, the splits are predetermined according to size and they play in separate districts accordingly. But 6A schools will play in the same districts during the regular season, then once playoff teams are determined (4 per district), they spilt into divisions by enrollment. So teams that played each other in the same district will be in different divisions for the playoffs.

The old fox sports southwest used to do the high school highlights for the whole state and I’d always watch til the end to see the 6 man highlights

That’s right. And it’s by district. So 4 teams make the playoffs in a district, the two largest go D1 and two smallest go D2. So there are schools in D2 that are bigger than some schools in D1. It’s imperfect, but hard to separate 6A into D1 and D2 districts since the vast majority of 6A schools are in the metro areas of Dallas, Houston, Austin and SA. Would really be tough for west Texas schools.

And D1 and D2 is only for football. All other sports are just 1A-6A with an extra round of playoffs (7) where football has 6 rounds.

Why does each A classification have a different division.

Just think of them as classifications. 5A D1 and 5A D2 are separate classifications. Those two classifications come together for all other sports. So the football districts are not the same as the volleyball/soccer/basketball/baseball/etc district.

What is different in this aspect between Texas & Louisiana? Doesn’t Louisiana have this same set up? Live out of district but get in the magnet program and play for the out of district school?

This is what aggravates me. So basketball or baseball don’t deserve a D1/D2 split?
