Always want everyone to safely enjoy the hunt and hate to learn of tragedies occurring in the field.

Missouri 18 yr. old accidentally shot and killed duck hunting in Ted Shanks Conservation Area on Sunday. He was hunting with a group of friends. Details aren't released yet but rumor is he was accidently shot in the head. I guess someone swung out of their field of fire and shot him. Heard from others who were hunting in the same pool and saw all the emergency vehicles responding to the accident.

Also saw that a 24 yr. old in Oklahoma went to retrieve a downed duck, walked off a deep drop and drowned when his waders filled up.

Safety, Safety, Safety

Every hunt should begin with a safety talk. Especially with younger people.

I consider myself to have great hunter's safety protocols and I've still had close calls.

My Stepdad almost blew my head off in a blind...couldnt hear out of my left ear for hours.

Someone recently discharged a weapon on the front porch of our camp

I could go on.....

Not to mention climbing the tree. Extremely dangerous if you slip and are not wearing a harness. It does not take much to break your neck or back. The horror stories i have heard of people falling out of tree stands is why i practice extreme caution when climbing

i can not stand when people just sweep the whole concept of safety under a rug when they hunt

this was likely not the problem, if this was the case I'd have drowned a few times over.

without waders this fella likely drowns in same scenario - step off ledge even without waders you go under panic and breathe in a bunch of water - game over - also excess weight of gear comes into play.

We use lifelines and harnesses. If you don’t have one, you can’t hunt in our 18’ stands

We were duck hunting the season opener in NW Missouri this year and a new guy joined our group. We were spread out on the banks of a lake and it got slow so he started walking around with his shotgun.

A single came in and he was standing right behind a guy who was still in his shooting spot. The new guy shot over the top of the other guy. Scared the shite outta all of us.

He didn't stick around for Sunday's hunt and won't be back with our group.

True! Normally, no one moves with their gun unless they're switching spots and everyone knows they're moving.

If you want to take a leak or go get breakfast, you leave your gun at your spot.

We'll be dealing with any FNGs differently going forward.

PRESIDIO, TEXAS - Hunting Accident
Sunday, December 3, 2023 - Presidio County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of a hunting accident this morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. for a fifteen year old male who was fatally shot in the chest while preparing rifles to go hunting. In Rising Tide, about the 1927 flood, it describes a coal train parked on a bridge over the Arkansas River. The bridge started to vibrate from rushing flood waters, and the friction set the coal on fire. Then the bridge collapsed, and no one has seen a scrap of that train in the almost 100 years since.

I havent hunted in a lock on very high in a while. And while 18 is not super up there, I got in one about 18-20 feet last week. About 1/2 way up I was scared to death. The differences in my perception at 20 versus in my 50s is night and day. I went up those steps with the caustion of a damn brain surgeon.

And then you add in that hunting boots aren't really designed for climbing.
