With season closing in, I went walk at Pearl River the other day, just me no dog. Only ran into 1 woodcock but man it seems like the place would be loaded at times. Wet wet wet and good thick cover. Anyone have good hunts there?

I’m out there all the time. Well as often as I can. Haven’t seen any this year but only hunted the evening twice. I’ve seen them in the past off the last road back there.

This morning was hot and muggy. Could have got a limit of skeeters if I had my shotgun.

Speaking of Woodcock

We were quail hunting a new cutover years ago, buddy put about two dozen out to work the dogs.

When we finished it was nearly dark and the Woodcock started coming in, I guess to roost or feed.

They would fly over tree top high then drop straight down like a danged rock (fast).

I shot a box of shells and never knocked a feather off of one

I'm still Pissed Off about it

You bumping a bird without a dog is pretty good!
I’ve considered going with my pointers since I pass it on the way to our place in MS.
I bet this front will push some birds down.
I’d be down to explore with the dogs if you want to meet up!
