People in Nola will argue this

You mean the people who are actually there and don’t just get their NOLA takes from Tucker Carlson?

I'm an ex-pat with most of my family still there, so save me the outsider thing.

My family has some of the biggest Nola apologists in the world. Family been in the area since before it was part of the US. Even most of them are starting to admit it has gotten untenable.

Local corruption has always been there, but now it's paired with astounding incompetence and brazen negligence. DAs office won't do their job to protect citizens, mayor is openly racist and a crook herself, violence (not just murder) seems to be getting worse, school truancy is worse, blight is worse, the core of the French Quarter, which used to be protected due to tourism dollars, has not been as safe as it once was, the police are quitting and I don't blame them, etc.
