We weren't from Athens, we really lived closer to Madison, but we knew there would be a big attendance. He was a popular man.
McConnell Funeral home had the best facilities to handle it, but it wasn't enough.
People came from Huntsville, Decatur, Madison, all of Limestone County. Black, white, green, they all showed up.
I didn't even own a proper suit at the time. A certain tailor shop back then, made one for me. In 48 hours free of charge.
