Disinterested fan perspective: FSU defense deserved it

Not dissing Alabama or Texas, but just as a college football fan, what we saw from FSU's defense in the ACC championship game was something special, IMHO. It felt that way watching the game, so I looked at the drive chart, and it was even more special than it looked. Louisville's entire offense consisted of:
- 50 plays that netted -8 yards total.
- A single coherent drive that led to a FG
- Just five other plays with meaningful positive yardage.
1. Louisville had 69 yards of offense in the 1st half, but 72 yards came on just 5 plays. The other 24 first-half plays netted -3 yards.
2. One of those 5 plays was a meaningless 11 yard run on the last 0:03 of the half, with FSU in prevent defense. Ignoring that meaningless snap, Louisville's offense had just 4 successful plays, and just 3 first downs in the 1st half.
3. Louisville came out of half time and mounted a single decent 12-play, 56 yard drive that led to its first FG. Five of Louisville's 8 pass completions came on that one drive. After that, FSU shut them down even more than they did in the 1st half.
4. Except for the 41yard run that led to the 2nd FG, Louisville's remaining 26 plays of the 2nd half netted -5 yards.

"Good defense only matters if we need it as an excuse to put Bama in the playoffs".

FSU would have beaten Michigan
Bama will roll them

if Iowa was undefeated they would have made it.

They played the last few weeks like they had something to lose.
Their story even 10 years ago would have played extremely well. Unfortunately, scoring lots of points somehow got intertwined with collegiate football success.
Apparently, what the people want is to watch bama in the playoffs every single year. Im not sure how at this point anyone outside the bama fan base thinks that, but it has become very apparent that they have first dibs for the benefit of any doubt

Maybe. Maybe not.
The problem is their offense had the chance in their last 2 games to make a statement like 2014 Ohio St did against Wisconsin. Against our (at the time) 82nd ranked defense, Tate went 12/25 for 124 yards and 0 TDs.

They absolutely did. It can be analyzed from countless angles, but the fact is, according to the committee, they were left out because their QB got hurt. They have explained that rule before and used it in the reverse, if you are missing personnel and lose, you may get the benefit of the doubt.
Nothing about this decision is good for college football. If you’re star QB gets hurt, you can now justify sitting out yourself because you are at the mercy of a very biased and flawed system. NIL and 12 teams will make it less fair IMO. Same teams every year.

Why exactly is this a requirement?
The statement they made was winning all of their games.

So now you're saying West Virginia should've gotten in over 1 loss FSU years ago?

It’s only a requirement when you have to constantly invent new requirements to achieve the outcome you’re looking for.

Welcome to “NCAA football” the sport where everything's made up and the points don't matter.

I'm old enough to vividly remember how potent the 2000 FSU offense was with Chris Weinke, Anquan Boldin, Travis Minor, and a bunch of future NFL talent. Before the national championship game, they stomped a #4 ranked Florida 30-7.
Thus, they were a 12 point favorite against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, and everyone was bummed that the national championship game seemed to be a foregone conclusion. But Oklahoma was undefeated, even though there were lots of complaints that Miami, Washington, and other one loss teams would be better.
Oklahoma's defense was spectacular, though, and they held FSU to 2 freaking points.
It's absolutely disgraceful that this FSU team didn't get a similar opportunity. If anything, stout defenses are even more important - and rare - today.
