re: Thoughts on Godzilla Minus One

Excellent film. Saw it last night and haven’t stopped thinking about it.

The monster smashing/battles are somewhat limited, in a good way, but extremely effective. A nice mix of classic and modern style. The atomic breath attack on Ginza was jaw dropping.

The human story was extremely well done. Being the bulk of the film, it’s what makes the entire package work so well.

I want more movies like this.

My only minor gripe is the effects for Godzilla walking. Like the scene with the film crew on the roof: He has natural movement destroying buildings, with a bit of agility and facial expression, then goes to the rigid, robotic, zombified, upright walk with a stone face. Looked like he was enthralled by the Hypnotoad.

I get that it’s probably an homage to the original suitmation style, but it just didn’t look right to me.
