I can’t see taking the risk playing early season big name opposition. To me going forward the league games are enough. Go undefeated non-con, try to get to 6-2 in league. 10-2 should be good enough to make 12 team playoff.

On the other side, that win for Texas will get them in.

Can’t run from competition. If you wanna be the best you have to beat the best. Who wants a championship they got by gaming the system?

Look at our year. The FSU game would have kept us out of the 12 team playoff.

That’s 100% spot on. Without a big non-conference win, the loss to Oklahoma would have been the differentiator vs other conference champions.

If Bama gets into the CFP anyway, then the committee is basically saying playing a tougher OOC schedule isn't worth it.

I’d rather have a hefty schedule. Having said that, we are about to expand and have a chance to play Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas every year. We’ll see how the expansion plays out but I don’t think we should be worrying about out of conference scheduling.

Meh, if we can’t beat them how are we supposed to be “the best?” It’s why we have a playoff. Teams have to EARN the right to play.

We have no business in a playoff this year with our defense.

Don’t disagree. But even with a really good team it dosent make sense going forward with TX and OU coming in. The league games are enough.

That is a great point.

Yes but not for the reason you think. Alabama will hammer away in the media that they are not the same team that lost to UT and, regardless, Bama can legitimately be ranked 2, 3, or 4 as long as they are behind UT.

We should always open the season against a top OOC team and use the results to our advantage- win or lose.
