Honestly, he gave you solid advice.
You state that you have applied to 1,000 networking jobs and never had success.
Look at this honestly and then fix all of the possible root causes why you aren’t viewed as a desirable candidate.
1. Your resume sucks (format, typos, spelling, grammar, etc)
2. You simply don’t have the certainty and qualifications the job demands.
3. You don’t interview well.
There could be other reasons, but that is the low hanging fruit.

Definitely interview. Convey confidence & see what you pick up on.
Then you’ll know in your gut what to do once you hear the offer.

I would definitely take it based on what you posted:
- you are no closer to the job you want after 2 years on the road you are on
- this one has potential for that job, or a lot a minimum trains you for it.
Even if after 6 months you get let go (although I would work like hell to make sure that doesn’t happen), you will have new things to put on your CV that would likely open new doors.

I’ve been in IT for almost 20 years now at corporate level. I’ve found that what actually matters is who you know not what you know. I started out as Junior Network Admin right out of college (I had no experience they stuck me with a Sr Network Admin and he trained me) then went to LAN Administrator then to now as Microsoft O365 platform administrator (manage all exchange, share point, Teams apps). I wasn’t qualified for ANY of these roles when hired. I got with a company and worked hard and they liked me. That’s all it took. Companies are willing to invest in and promote workers who show up to work and work hard and do a good job. There’s so many worthless IT people out there these days that are lazy and not motivated. Location depends on a lot as well. There are thousands of IT jobs in Atlanta that pay very well. Same for a lot of other major metro areas.

I do make careless issues on the internet but it cannot be #1 as I have had numerous people check my resume and it cant be #3 because I get too few interviews to mess up.
In regards to #2 I cam currently Networking+ and Security+ certified.

I wish I would have gotten into the business 20 years ago.
Nowadays, there will be 50+ applicants for a Junior Network Admin role. Nearly impossible to start off at that position.

Befriend a network admin at your current employer and see if they'll let you work with them on your own time, just something you can put on your resume as actual admin experience.
I'll echo the guy who said a lot of it is who you know. It's difficult for an employer to take a chance on someone with zero applicable experience and no reference from someone they know. Additionally, and I hate to say it, I quickly look past the resumes of people who spent many years in a lower level role....it tells me they either never performed well enough for their own employer to take a chance OR they just aren't self-motivated to improve. I know that's unfair in a lot of cases, but when you're reviewing 50-100 resumes for a position, you've got to have some basic means of whittling the pile down.

My current position is very limited opportunity for advancement. I am networking+/Security+ certified.
When I looked to get into cybersecurity the. Best advice I got was to pick a cloud service and become an expert in it. Get any and all certifications for it and keep current.
