The responses about young men, when the main thrust of the article is old men are killing themselves at a significant rate, are illuminating.

What do you think is causing the suicide rate among men to be so high? Maybe it’s because we have a society of women who have been programmed to ignore men’s problems because men are so “oppressive” and reek of “toxic masculinity”

Men have always had higher suicide rates than women, largely due to men utilizing more lethal means when attempting. Women tend to use things in attempts like pills, which can allow for more time to intervene and save them. Men tend to use firearms, which don’t allow that kind of intervention.

The numbers have gone up among all populations since the introduction of social media in the 00s. It’s not healthy to be that connected all of the time for anyone.

Older men seeing an increase is likely due to social isolation (you don’t have as many senior community services like you used to due to lack of funding), loss of a spouse, and increasing terminal health issues (particularly dementia). Senior care in this country is pretty abysmal as a whole.

Hear me out, if the main trust of the increase is old men, its probably something else. You know, terminal illness or lost of close family/friends.

You got some political point to make, which would make more sense if 19-30 were seeing this spike.

I don’t know any men who are relying on women to fix their problems. Do you?
