Went in 2001 on my honeymoon. Had a great time, but it wasn't any place I felt the burning need to go back to again.

Eh. IMO, Jamaica is a shite hole overall. There's some decent things to do, but it's 3rd world for sure.

agreed. there are some nice resorts. i'd stay put or take an excursion sponsored by the resort. I've been but not a place high on my list to return to.

Been a couple of times, nice but not spectacular. Would go again if prices were right...thats the main attraction it is usually affordable and its nice for the money.

Yes, but it was 30+ years ago. Dunns River Falls was fun, but I can't offer more than that.

This seems to be the feeling in several of the travel groups I am in and the forum for the cruise we are going on next year.

Truth. The falls were entertaining because you climb from the bottom and there are wardrobe malfunctions galore.

The properties are nice, but you still have to watch your drinks.

The private property stops 25ft from the high tide line, so there are literally Rastafarians standing in the water offering to sell you drugs on the beach.

One couple staying at the same resort as us booked a ganja farm tour. We were surprised that they were only robbed. They were blindfolded, brought up the mountain to the farm, given the tour, robbed, then taken back blindfolded by the driver.

I was there on a port of call. We paid to walk up Dunn River Falls and we wandered around near the dock.

Across the highway looked like a slum and was advised that we should not go over there.

You can go tubing on the White River which is near Ocho Rios or rafting on the Martha Brae River but I think that's back towards Falmouth. Are you looking to stay at a resort? I've been to Jamaica 15 times and I've never stayed at one. The retired people I go with have all been there 40+ times. I treat it like I do if I go to New Orleans. If you have street smarts you'll generally be fine. I'm going again in February for three weeks and I rented a car this time. Splitting time between an Air BnB in Port Antonio and a guesthouse on the south coast in Treasure Beach owned by a Canadian friend and on the beach in Negril the last few days.
