Makes me think real hard every month when I go to make my retirement contributions

The other side of that coin is being like my ex-wife and some of my friends. Nice cars and nice vacations all on credit. They'll have to work a half day on the day of their funeral. What really scares me is NOT making those preparations, then suffering some physical ailment that prevents me from working, yet not having any money. I'm 50 but could retire tomorrow with a modest lifestyle if the unthinkable were to happen.

I’m older but the path is familiar

Stress over business is what I think is my greatest health risk

For what? If it kills me….

By averaging both sets of grandparents' ages at death, I should (theoretically) make it to 83.25.

Nope

Not to long ago, life expectancy was 44

No medical discovery
No diet
No genetics

It had been around for thousands of years but took modern advertising to get it into mass use by humanity.

As for you vs your grandparents, you will probably die sooner. Starting with those born in the late 1930's Americans have adopted less physical jobs and lifestyles. Your grandparents lived longer because they were active longer. Just over 100 years ago agriculture and home work (cleaning, cooking, raising kids) were the #1 and #2 jobs by profession in the USA. Both were hard work and kept you healthier, longer than any trip to a gym.

It was bacterial. Thought that was it back then

As a teenager, I didn't think I'd live to 20. In my 20s, didn't think I'd live to 30.

I'm 31, so who knows? I trust in God to let me decide when it's my time to go.

The primary reason life expectancy has risen in this country is the elimination of infant mortality. Same in most 1st world countries. Average is still quite low where infant mortality is high.

It's math.

I’m 65. Loving life and am in good health. Don’t obsess about age at all. Everyday is a gift. Worrying about it won’t change a thing.

This is real. Our bodies age, and opportunities lessen.
