Just got home from my sister's house where the whole family did Thanksgiving this year. Probably about 20 people.

My brother-in-law's little sister and her husband are there with their son who is 6. He's acting like a little a-hole, running through the house, screeching at the top of his lungs for no apparent reason, grabbing stuff off of shelves, counters that aren't his and just leaving it all over. His parents are basically ignoring this bad behavior and just reward him by giving him dessert for dinner b/c their precious son doesn't like "Thanksgiving " food.

Well after dinner we've all been drinking and feeling pretty good and watching the game and socializing. This shitty kid walks up to the coffee table, grabs the remote and proceeds to change the channel. We're all pissed and tell him to hand over the remote. He just laughs and runs out into the backyard with it. My brother goes to find this kid's father and tells him he better handle this or he will.

Kid's dad goes and gets the kid and has picked him up and is trying to reason with him to give the remote back. Kid hauls off and beams the father square in the face with the remote. My family is watching and is just like ohhh shite. Dad puts kid down and tells him that wasn't nice and if he says sorry he'll buy him some video game the kid wants on Amazon. Kid yells no and runs over by the pool.

My dad, who's about 3 or 4 Bourbons in tells this guy that his kid is a little shite b/c there is no discipline. The dad starts going off about how they only believe in positive reinforcement to correct behavior. My Dad tells him that is the dumbest thing he's ever heard. While this discussion is going on, the kid is standing by the pool smirking and my little brother, who's also been drinking, walks by the kid and says "this is for stealing the remote" and pushes him into the pool(the shallow end btw). We all start cracking up. The kid is stunned and then starts crying. The dad is pissed and helps get his son up the steps and out of the pool. Kid's mom and the women in the family hear the commotion and come out there. The mom is furious but almost everyone else is kind of glad the kid and his dumbass parents left after that. Even my brother-in-law said he was glad they left.

Pretty tame, but it's the most drama I've ever seen on Thanksgiving

I really hope this is true, hopefully my future kid isn’t a shithead.

Kinda similar happened here. My youngest brother’s youngest is almost 3, and he thought it was hilarious to steal the remote and run off. He underestimated Nanny (aka Godmother for those of y’all that don’t speak Louisianese) speed, and I caught his little arse and tickled him until he gave the remote up. The football game was never interrupted, but it was a fun game for us to play together.

Sorry your relative’s kid was a little turd and actually interrupted the game. Sounds like his parents failed him and will continue to do so intentionally.

it's probably just the trashy side of my family, but it feels like this has been normalized.

lots of family holiday parties i go to are basically just 4-10 little kids running around the house (including the main part of the house) screaming and probably playing some type of game. the mothers and grandmothers think it's cute i guess.

we could do that when i was a kid, it just had to be outside or downstairs. to me, babies and little toddlers are cute and can be the center of attention or whatever... but it's a lot less cute when the kids are like 5+ and not listening to their parents.
