These threads always end up being stupid arguments, and show who hasn't listened to any guitar based music from the last 20 years
I'll always say there is no "best" guitarist - the best one is whoever satisfies what you're looking for musically at that time
You can break it down musically or technically, answers all over the place
Guthrie Govan is about an objective of an answer there is, though
Tosin Abasi right up there too but his stuff isn't as easily digestible as Guthrie's

He's not as famous, but he's has an unparalleled combination of technical proficiency and artistic tact. Most guitarists lose tact as they get more technical.
