But we expected this team to have deficiencies because its not an uber talented bunch, so they are about as expected.

Talent wise we aren’t SEC title contenders but we certainly have the talent to do pretty well this year. The issues with our players, namely defending the perimeter and rebounding, are issues that are almost entirely coaching based.
The narrative that our players are untalented was true last year as besides KJ Williams, Derek Fountain, and Trae Hannibal, the transfers we had were just plain awful. Juice and Kendal Coleman might have been the worst players I’ve ever seen put on an LSU jersey.
This year, we have the talent to be a middle of the pack SEC team. We have the talent to compete for a NCAAT bid. The issue is that we have a coach that is clueless as to the strengths of his players, is clueless in making rotations, is unable to make in game adjustments, and is abysmal at being a motivator and a leader.
Our players are fine. We are not less talented than Dayton or Nicholls. We lost to them because we have abysmal coaching.

I reiterate my normal thoughts that November basketball is somewhat meaningless in terms of the overall season and also only the starting line for analytical metrics.
However, it's November for every team, so they're figuring themselves out as well. And the early metrics (we lost to two teams that were predicatively worse - one much worse in Nicholls State - and beat two teams that were very predicatively worse) doesn't bode well as a carryover from last season which had the same tendency.
