What if you can’t read?

Cases have been filed for offenses far milder than surreptitiously moving millions of people away from an interoperable standard and into a proprietary system of vendor lock-in.

In this case they haven’t locked you out from the sms/mms standard, they just didn’t upgrade you to another standard RCS that the carriers didn’t really even spearhead. Carriers themselves could have stepped up and forced Apples hand here by locking Apple out until Apple upgraded.

There are countless ways in which free markets can produce results that are bad for consumers. Happens all the time. Again, we don't exist to serve the market and keep it "pure", it exists to serve us and our needs.

Being bad for customers and worthy of government intervention are two different things. Should Nintendo, PSX, and Xbox be forced to put their games on other platforms? Pokémon is a big lock in for Nintendo, should we get involved with that? It’s bad for a customer to have to buy a less performant device in a switch than a Xbox and psx.

No offense but a single game on a proprietary platform is a far different situation than apple abusing their popularity to co-opt a standard that was in place for over a decade used by EVERYONE before their phone hit the market.

It was done to deliberately make life miserable every single non apple phone.

I didn't say they locked anyone out, it's vendor lock-in.

I agree.

No.

No, but we are not talking about a game. We are talking about a method of communication that a billion people depend on.

Imagine if Apple had hijacked voice calls the way they did SMS. iPhone to iPhone makes iCalls (but placed just like regular calls, "seamless"), but then when someone switches to a different phone people can't call him anymore until he figures out what the hell Apple did to break this universal system.

So you have highlighted the problem with a bull-headed free-markets-solve-all anti-regulation mentality: critical communications infrastructure is treated the same as a fricking video game.
