Charleston for NYE suggestions?

Thinking of surprising my wife with a trip to Charleston, fly up Saturday 12/30 and leave New Year's Day.
If I pull the trigger, I'll get reservations at Husk on saturday night.
What else is there to do up there? Anyone ever been there for NYE?

Yes. It was shockingly sleepy. King street was dead. It’s the type of town where you have to be on the list at some party or you are SOL.

Multiple places have NYE parties, restaurants, bars, etc. Reservations go quick, if not already gone.
Might have a tough time getting reservations for Husk, that’ll be a busy weekend. I’d call now if you want a table.

Futurebirds are playing two nights at the Charleston Music Hall. Excellent Athens based band.

Never been for NYE but don't waste that on Husk, there are so many better options for dinner.
Husk has a great bar, but the restaurant itself is now mid-tier for Charleston. Has declined much over the past 10 years - not bad but not special anymore.

Been saying this for years. Husk is the most overrated restaurant in the South. Total snooze fest.
Hall's is also a bit overcrowded lately and slightly less than what it used to be.
To the OP, are you looking for a wowzer party atmosphere or just a nice late dinner? To echo another poster, if you want a bonkers party you may have to start pulling strings asap.

Went ahead and booked husk just to
Hold.
What would you recommend besides husk?
And as far as parties go, I saw something at Charleston wonderland that looks similar to stuff we’ve been to in New Orleans.

Look at the charlestoncitypaper.com.
They have many events listed, there are plenty of parties if you want to do so. Many of them might have a dress code so check that as well.
Many restaurants will do a fixed menu so beware of that as well.

Here's where I think you could do a lot better. Just off the top of my head:
The Ordinary
SNOB
167 Sushi
Chubby Fish
High Cotton
Southbound
Wild Common
Probably forgetting some.
Will by my first NYE here...we're not sure if we're gonna do an event or hold out and see if we have enough friends to get invited to a party

I know you know this, but I’m born and raised downtown Charleston.
Here’s the skinny… downtown sucks on NYE because most events are private and/or no one is in town. Dinner wise I would recommend Oak over Halls all day everyday. Billy Hall is the man but will annoy the shite out of you by coming to the table every 2 minutes to ask how it is. Oak is the better steak house.
After the ball drops, people will flood out of the local parties and every bar will be packed downtown.

Have been for NYE before. We randomly had some friends there at the same time. Didn’t know they were there until we all got there and put it together on Snapchat.
We got together and ended up getting tickets to the NYE Party on the deck of the USS Yorktown in Mt Pleasant. It was a lot of fun. Easy Uber over the bridge and back to King St if you want to go down there afterwards.
The event is well put together. You basically tour your way through the ship on your way to the deck. WW2 planes, control stations, etc. Once you get up on deck, there’s 3 or 4 huge event tents with more than enough porto potty’s. The year we went was when they had record snowfall a couple days later and it was cold as shite. Like mid 30’s on the deck with wind off the water in Charleston Harbor. So, as you can imagine, everybody was huddled in the tents, but it was still really easy to get drinks, and a band plays in the main tent.
Easy access to and from the ship, easy to get drinks, short wait to urinate, and good music.
King St was also fairly dead New Year’s Day so it was pretty easy to get some brunch.

I need to look into this. We’re also considering the party at The Wonderer or the one at the Aquarium.
A bunch of them listed at Charleston Guru: LINK
